5 Reasons Why a Spotless Home is the Key to Happy Living

Whether you’re an avid cleaner or you absolutely hate the chore of doing so, there’s no denying that living in a cleaner home makes us feel good on the inside. Having too much mess within your home can impact your psychological health, causing you to feel stressed as cleaning your home becomes a difficult task. You can help to reignite the positive feelings within your home and life by living in a clean and friendly environment. We’ve put together the top 5 reasons why a spotless home is the key to happy living.

No Chaos

It’s inevitable that throwing things away is going to be a difficult task. Many people find the value in things quickly and easily, whether it’s because of personal reasons or because you believe there is still practical use to it. An unorganised home equals chaos, and a chaotic home equals a chaotic mind.

You can clear unorganised mess from your home in a number of fun and easy ways. Whether you want to give things away to family and friends, donate to charity or sell. If you have too many items that aren’t at their best and are better off in the bin, arrange for a skip to come to your home to take away any waste and unsold items.

More Productivity

The cleanliness of your home has the ability to shape who you are; your mood, outlook and productivity levels. By taking the time to remove the rubbish and clutter from within your home and create a clean, carefree space, you’ll soon begin to find that your productivity levels soar and you become more useful both at home and work.

A tidy home works in the same way a tidy desk at work would- if it’s messy, it could be bad news for your productivity levels. A clean environment ca boost your energy levels and overall health, helping you to remain focused throughout the day.

Therapeutic

Though some people hate cleaning, it can actually be very therapeutic. By removing excess rubbish from your home and life, your body, soul and mind will feel cleansed and free (a lot like your home!). People that put time in to keeping their home mess free are usually happier beings. The actual process of cleaning can provide us with satisfaction as we get the job done, helping to boost our moods and relieve symptoms of stress.

If you have a lot to get through, why not start with your bedroom? A clean and organised bedroom can help to promote a peaceful relaxation area, as well as improved sleep.

Health

Multiple conducted studies have shown that living in a clean and tidy home can be great for our health. Twenty minutes of exercise a week can impact depression, and the great thing is that cleaning counts as a form of exercise! Obviously some dusting here and there won’t be beneficial, however carrying out cleaning activities that leave you exhausted means you’ll be killing two birds with one stone.

Research has also shown that being in a clean and tidy environment could lead to healthier food choices, and those who worked in a neater space were twice as likely to choose fruit over chocolate!

Bad Habits

Perhaps the mess in your home stems from bad habits that are causing you to over buy and live in a chaotic home. Whilst buying less is the obvious way to cut back on mess and have a tidy, clean home, you could also focus your spending on experiences rather than material things. Living with less and experiencing more is a great way to ensure healthy and happy minds as well as a stress free home.

Whether you want to go to the gym, see a film or visit a theme park- the possibilities are endless if you focus your bad habits of spending to experience days instead.

If you’re currently cleaning your home and are finding you have a lot of items you wish to keep, perhaps a self-storage unit could be the answer? This way, you’ll be able to keep your treasured possessions but in a place that doesn’t affect your home life. Saving Space in 2017

With the New Year quickly approaching, it’s time to think of some resolutions to benefit your life in 2017. With only 8 in 100 people managing to achieve their New Year resolutions, many people need all the help they can get! Though we can’t help you reach your goal weight or stop you from eating chocolate, we can help you keep your home as tidy and mess free as possible throughout 2017 and beyond.

Set Goals

To achieve a New Year resolution, it needs to have an obvious and clear goal with a realistic deadline. If your resolution is to simply ‘tidy home’, it’s unlikely it will ever be achieved. Instead, make your resolution to ‘tidy living room thoroughly by end of April’. Shorter, to the point and more attainable resolutions are easier to achieve in the long run.

Realistically Speaking

Though you may want your home to look like the sparkling showrooms you see in shops, it’s simply not realistic to get your home looking just like one. Unless you have the money to completely revamp your home, taking the time to remove the things from your home that you don’t need is a great way to free up space and give your home a fresh, new feel.

Books

There are a range of fantastic books and blogs available in stores and on the internet that can keep your home tidying skills in check. These are great to read if you’re ever feeling disheartened on your 2017 resolution journey; ideal for a pick me up to get back into the swing of things! Don’t forget to keep an eye on our past and future blogs for some tips and tricks, too.

Be Easy

Many people fail to stick to their New Year resolutions as they act like they are the only thing that matters. Whilst throughout January the resolutions may stick, as February hits our old habits begin to quickly return. Instead of spending all your free time tidying your home and removing mess, dedicate time each Friday or at the weekend. Though it may take a longer period of time to achieve your resolution in full, it will make it much easier and attainable.

Benefits

If you’re beginning to struggle with keeping your resolution, try not to become disheartened. Instead, try to think of all the benefits your efforts will equal, whether this be the extra space in your home, the money from selling unwanted things or simply the feeling you’ll get from a tidy home and a succeeded New Year resolution.

DIY Decorating

Before you start…
When thinking about decorating, it’s important to do your homework and know what you’re getting into before you start. Work out what styles and colour schemes you want. Decide if you are going to use wallpaper or paint and, most importantly,  what preparation needs doing before you start.  If you are not doing the work yourself, make sure you chat with the decorator so they know exactly what you want. They will happily give you some tips and advice, and come up with some great ideas with you.
Clearing space…
The biggest issue tends to be making space to move around while you are decorating. Covering up all your possessions thoroughly can be a nightmare and that is where a small storage room can come in very handy.
For at little as £6 per week you can put your treasured items in some boxes and move them out of harms way, and even move out your big furniture. Then there will be no risk of paint spillages or other damage to your beloved sofa, or the new bed you have just bought, or that huge vase that granny gave you.
Give Beehive Self Storage a ring and we can help you decide how much space you need to put your items away.  You can store for a little as a week and a room big enough for a sofa as well as your boxes can cost just £14.40 for a week.

A quick insight into Beehive Self Storage

After first entering the self storage industry over ten years ago, Beehive Self Storage has developed from just one self storage facility to three individual storage facilites with sites across Somerset and Dorset.  We have hundreds of individual, private units in over thirty different sizes.
The first and oldest of our three sites is located in Lopen, just a few minutes away from the A303.  In addition to our Beehive storage facility, Lopen Business Park also provides working space such as factories and offices for many local businesses.  Lopen is ideally located for customers from Chard, Crewkerne, Yeovil and surrounding areads.
Our next site is located in Child Okeford, North Dorset. This rural site offers secure and safe storage in a clean and dry purpose built facilty that you may struggle to find locally in Dorset. The site also has fantastic views of the ancient hill fort of Hambledon Hill.
Our newest site and storage facility is The Beehive Building on Priorswood Road, Taunton. This site was completed in 2013 and is due for further expansion in the future with the addition of another level of storage units. Similar to our Lopen site, The Beehive Building also offers serviced offices to local businesses.

Watch this space – our aim is to continue to grow our Beehive!
